A reconnaissance survey of the Brighton Downs 4-mile Sheet area in Queensland was conducted by geologists R. R. Vine and W. Jauncey of the Bureau of Mineral Resources between June and August, 1961. The report describes Cretaceous rocks cropping out over nearly the whole area, with Lower Cretaceous marine sediments in the northwest and freshwater deposits of Lower to Upper Cretaceous age. Tertiary sedimentation areas in the north and southwest contain sandstone, clay, and limestone, with widespread lateritisation.
