Description
518 extragalactic radio sources with flux densities greater than 1 Jy at 5 GHz, compiled from the NRAO-MPI and Parkes surveys. This catalog covers essentially the whole sky, excluding the galactic plane and the Magellanic Clouds, and includes flux densities, positions, object classes, visual magnitudes, redshifts, and spectral indices. NASA HEASARC provides this service, with a duplicate entry removed in June 2019.
Use Cases
Classifying extragalactic objects based on the provided object classes and spectral indices.
Studying the distribution of bright radio sources across the sky, excluding the galactic plane.
Analyzing the relationship between radio flux density and optical magnitude for extragalactic sources.
Investigating source properties like redshift and spectral index for cosmological studies.
Strengths
Catalog contains 518 specific, bright sources with flux densities greater than 1 Jy.
Data covers 9.811 steradians, representing nearly the entire sky outside the galactic plane.
Includes multiple measured properties per source: flux densities, positions, magnitudes, redshifts, and spectral indices.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
