Holocene Estuary and Delta Facies Evolution Across Australia

283 wave- and tide-dominated estuaries and deltas across Australia were mapped to evaluate established evolutionary facies models. The study, published by the Australian Ocean Data Network, provides the first continent-scale statistical analysis of geomorphic and sedimentary data for these systems. It reveals an offshore shift in sand accumulation during delta development and larger intertidal areas in wave-dominated deltas compared to estuaries.
