Comprising surveillance data on over 100,000 estimated cases of nonfatal firearm and BB/pellet gun injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments in 2023. It was collected via the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) by the CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. The data are designed to provide national incidence estimates and monitor injury trends over time.
The dataset provides national estimates based on a sample; raw case counts are not a complete census. The 'intent of injury' field is a critical variable for analysis but may have coding complexities. Data are for public health surveillance; individual case identification is not permitted.
