Description
A bathymetry survey acquired by the University of Western Australia from March 1 to 12, 2015, using Kongsberg EM302 and EM710 instruments aboard the RV Falkor. The mission aimed to conduct ROV surveys to assess marine animal abundance and identify sites for focused research, expecting to find corals, sponges, and large fish. The dataset is published with permission from Geoscience Australia and requires acknowledgment of the original scientists and the Marine Geoscience Data System.
Use Cases
Map seafloor topography based on the bathymetry survey data.
Identify potential habitats for deep-sea corals and sponges based on the ROV survey goals.
Plan future marine research expeditions based on the identified sites for focused study.
Strengths
Data collected during a specific 12-day research cruise in March 2015.
Acquired using specific, named instruments (Kongsberg EM302, EM710).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
