Description
FK150301 bathymetry data was acquired by the University of Western Australia from the Research Vessel Falkor between March 1 and 12, 2015 using Kongsberg EM302 and EM710 sensors. The mission aimed to support ROV surveys to assess marine animal abundance and identify sites for focused research, expecting species like corals, sponges, and sharks. This dataset is published with permission from Geoscience Australia and requires acknowledgment of the original scientists and the Marine Geoscience Data System.
Use Cases
Mapping seafloor topography based on the described bathymetry survey.
Planning deep-sea ROV dive sites based on the mission's goal of assessing animal abundance.
Studying the distribution of benthic species like corals and sponges mentioned in the research objectives.
Analyzing geological features of the Henderson Perth Canyon from the acquired sonar data.
Strengths
Data collected during a dedicated 12-day research cruise in March 2015.
Acquired using specific multibeam sonar instruments (Kongsberg EM302 and EM710).
Mission had a clear primary goal for biological assessment with ROV surveys.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and dataset scale are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
