Description
Flood Zone 3 represents Natural Resources Wales's estimate of land with a 1 in 100 or greater annual chance of river flooding, or a 1 in 200 or greater chance of sea flooding. This layer from the Flood Map for Planning shows areas across Wales at risk, including flood defences and benefited areas, to raise public and organizational awareness. The dataset was discontinued, with a new Flood Map scheduled for publication at the end of Summer 2021.
Use Cases
Assess property and infrastructure flood risk based on the defined annual probability zones.
Inform land-use planning and development decisions based on designated flood zones.
Model potential flood impact scenarios for emergency preparedness based on the mapped risk areas.
Raise public awareness of local flood likelihood based on the visual map layer.
Strengths
Defines specific annual flood probability thresholds (1 in 100 for rivers, 1 in 200 for the sea).
Includes ancillary data on flood defences and the areas they protect.
Created by the authoritative environmental body Natural Resources Wales.
Limitations
Dataset was discontinued; freshness and relevance are unverified beyond Summer 2021.
Row count, column definitions, and file formats are unknown, limiting suitability assessment.
Spatial coverage is limited to Wales, which may not be applicable for other regions.
