Description
FloodNet sensors collect water depth measurements at one-minute intervals to define flood events where depth exceeds 10 mm. The dataset contains summary statistics for these events, which have undergone quality control by the FloodNet team. It results from a collaboration between New York University, City University of New York, and several New York City government agencies.
Use Cases
Analyze flood event frequency and duration using the defined 10 mm water depth threshold.
Correlate flood event summary statistics with local rainfall or tidal data for predictive modeling.
Map flood event locations and depths to identify recurring street-level flooding hotspots.
Validate hydrodynamic urban flood models using the quality-controlled sensor measurements.
Strengths
Each recorded flood event is defined by a concrete 10 mm water depth threshold.
All presented flood events have undergone specific quality control by the FloodNet project team.
Data is collected at a high temporal resolution of one-minute intervals by deployed sensors.
Produced through a formal collaboration between academic researchers and multiple NYC government agencies.
Limitations
The dataset contains summary statistics, not the raw one-minute sensor measurements.
Geographic coverage is limited to New York City streets where FloodNet sensors are installed.
Unknown total count of flood events or temporal range covered by the summaries.
