FORMOSAT-2 provides 2-meter panchromatic and 8-meter multispectral imagery from a sun-synchronous orbit at 888 km. The National Space Program Office (NSPO) of Taiwan operates the satellite, which launched in May 2004 and became operational in June 2004. Its primary mission includes daily image coverage of Taiwan and the surrounding region for land use, agriculture, and disaster monitoring.
Data products are available at different preprocessing levels; users must select the appropriate level (Level 1A, Level 2A, Ortho) for their application. A price list is referenced, indicating commercial licensing may be involved.
