A four-dimensional (3D × time) biophysical model simulates the movement of marine larvae over semi-continuous surfaces. The model was used to study connectivity patterns among Commonwealth Marine Reserves and Key Ecological Features in Australia's northwest marine region. Results from the model, published in Environmental Modelling & Software in 2015, can aid in designing marine protected area networks and targeted field sampling.
