Description
443 Game Management Areas (GMAs) in the Yukon, grouped into 11 Zones, define legal boundaries for wildlife species management. The data, covering the entire Yukon except National Parks, was digitized from the 1:250,000 National Topographic Data Base.
Use Cases
Spatial analysis of GMA boundaries to assess habitat block connectivity for species management.
Overlay GMA Zone and Subzone boundaries with other spatial data to evaluate regulation impacts.
Map the 11 Game Management Zones to visualize administrative regions for wildlife policy.
Use the digitized mountain block delineations, originally for sheep management, for terrain-based ecological studies.
Strengths
Contains 443 distinct Game Management Area polygons.
Covers the entire Yukon territory, excluding National Parks.
Built using the authoritative 1:250,000 National Topographic Data Base as a digitizing base.
Structured into a hierarchical system of 11 Zones and numerous Subzones.
Limitations
Data is vector boundary data; no tabular attributes like species counts or regulation details are described.
The original intent was for sheep management units, which may influence boundary logic for other species.
Sample data and specific column schema are unavailable, limiting immediate understanding of attribute fields.
