Description
Genomic data for the alfalfa wilt pathogen Verticillium alfalfae strain Va8, sequenced by luran Wang and published on figshare in May 2026. The assembled genome is 33,951,091 base pairs in size, comprising 8 contigs with an N50 of 3,990,853 bp. It includes annotations for 9,441 predicted protein-coding genes.
Use Cases
Comparative genomics of Verticillium species based on the assembled genome sequence.
Identification of pathogenicity-related genes based on the 9,425 functionally annotated genes.
Analysis of repetitive DNA elements based on the 771,686 bp of annotated repetitive sequences.
Phylogenetic studies of fungal evolution based on the high-quality contig-level assembly.
Strengths
High-quality assembly metrics, including a contig N50 of 3,990,853 bp and N90 of 3,057,321 bp.
Comprehensive functional annotation, with 9,425 of 9,441 predicted genes annotated using multiple public databases.
Sequencing used a hybrid approach combining PacBio SMRT long-reads with Illumina short-reads for error correction.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for certain analyses.
Data is specific to a single fungal strain (Va8), limiting generalizability.
