Description
46 ground control points were collected via GNSS survey in the Skeiðarársandur area of Iceland in April 2022. The data provides latitude, longitude (WGS84), and elevation for each point, collected by Newcastle University staff using a Leica GS14 rover and base station. This survey was used to provide spatial control for structure-from-motion and geophysical surveys.
Use Cases
Georeferencing structure-from-motion imagery based on the described ground control points.
Validating and correcting aerial or satellite-derived elevation models based on precise GNSS survey data.
Providing spatial control for side-scan sonar and CHIRP survey data collected in proglacial lakes as mentioned in the description.
Strengths
Includes 46 precisely located ground control points with latitude, longitude, and elevation.
Data was post-processed against a permanent GNSS station maintained by the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO), suggesting high positional accuracy.
Specific antenna heights and collection dates (April 15-19, 2022) are documented.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The description mentions multiple file formats (M00, text, pdf, ASCII); data integration may require handling disparate formats.
