Description
Geologic Map of the Eminence Quadrangle, Shannon County, Missouri supports a three-dimensional geologic framework study for environmental impact assessment. The map was produced by the Midcontinent Karst Systems and Geologic Mapping Project, Eastern Earth Surface Processes Team, with field mapping conducted from 1996 through 1997. Data was last updated in the CEOS_EXTRA system on December 31, 1999.
Use Cases
Analyze spatial relationships between bedrock units and faults to model groundwater flow in karst systems.
Assess environmental impact of lead and zinc mining by overlaying geologic coverages with hydrologic system boundaries.
Integrate separate coverages for Quaternary and residual units into ecological models for the Ozark region.
Use structural data layers to support hydrogeologic investigations for resource management in the Mark Twain National Forest.
Strengths
Data organized into separate, thematic coverages for bedrock, Quaternary units, faults, and structural data.
Created as part of a targeted federal project (Midcontinent Karst Systems and Geologic Mapping Project) for applied environmental science.
Limitations
Dataset is temporally stale, with mapping from 1996-1997 and no updates indicated after 1999.
Specific quantitative metrics like row counts, file sizes, and spatial resolution are unknown.
Potential for geographic bias, focused solely on the Eminence 7.5-minute quadrangle in Shannon County.
