AGSO Survey 91 collected 2900 km of marine multichannel seismic reflection data off southeast Queensland in December 1989. The survey investigated the structure, stratigraphy, and evolution of the offshore Maryborough, Capricorn, and northern Tasman basins. Sonobuoy refraction, gravity, magnetic, and bathymetric data were also collected.
Use Cases
- Analyze basin structure and stratigraphy based on seismic reflection data
- Model geological evolution based on stratigraphic sequences and tectonic events described
- Investigate sediment thickness and basement depth based on reported syncline depths
- Map faulting and folding patterns based on descriptions of basin inversion
Strengths
- 2900 km of seismic reflection data provides a substantial survey line
- Survey ties to deep offshore wells Aquarius 1 and Capricorn 1A
- Includes complementary data types: sonobuoy refraction, gravity, magnetic, and bathymetric
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Data quality in Cretaceous and older sections is described as poor in some areas
- File formats are PDF and HTML, which may not be directly usable for computational analysis
