A 2004 study by Geoscience Australia assessed the petroleum potential of the deep-water Bremer Sub-basin offshore southwestern Australia. The frontier area, with water depths from 100 to 4000 meters, had no wells drilled and relied on a 1974 regional seismic survey by Esso Australia Ltd. The study aimed to determine if geological conditions were suitable for generating and trapping hydrocarbons.
