Description
Geomechanical strength data for mudstone samples from the Gunthorpe Member of the Sidmouth Mudstone Formation. Testing includes Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS), Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS), Triaxial strength, Point Load, and thermal loading tests conducted at the University of Leeds and the British Geological Survey. Data is separated into individual Excel files, each containing time, force, stress, displacement, and strain measurements for a single test.
Use Cases
Modeling rock strength parameters based on Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) and Triaxial test data
Analyzing stress-strain relationships based on time, force, and displacement data
Comparing tensile and compressive strength based on Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) and UCS results
Investigating thermal effects on mudstone properties based on thermal loading test data
Strengths
Testing was completed to the specification outlined by the ISRM (2007), suggesting standardized methodology
Data includes multiple test types (UCS, ITS, Triaxial, Point Load, thermal loading) for a comprehensive strength profile
Conducted by authoritative institutions: the University of Leeds and the British Geological Survey
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Provenance
Source
British Geological Survey (BGS)
Collection Method
Laboratory testing on collected mudstone samples, with sample preparation and preservation following ISRM (2007) specifications.

Geography
Samples from the Sidmouth Mudstone Formation, likely in the UK.
Data is separated into individual Excel files (.xlsx), each representing a single test, which may require consolidation for analysis.
