Description
GEWEX SRB Release 4-Integrated Product provides land-only global fields of 26 longwave radiative parameters. The dataset includes all-sky, clear-sky, and pristine-sky upward and downward fluxes at the surface, 500hPa, 200hPa, tropopause, and Top of Atmosphere. It covers two distinct periods: July 1983 through December 1987 for UTC-averaged land-only data, and January 1988 through December 2009 for global data averaged by local solar time.
Use Cases
Validating climate model outputs based on observed outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) and surface fluxes.
Analyzing trends in atmospheric heating profiles using upward/downward fluxes at multiple pressure levels.
Studying cloud radiative forcing by comparing all-sky, clear-sky, and pristine-sky flux conditions.
Assessing surface energy balance over land regions using the provided surface longwave radiation parameters.
Strengths
Derived from a well-established international project (WCRP/GEWEX Surface Radiation Budget Project).
Contains a specific set of 26 longwave radiative parameters across multiple atmospheric levels.
Covers a multi-decade period from 1983 to 2009, enabling trend analysis.
Limitations
The land-only product for 1983-1987 is described as an extension due to a missing key input from the main dataset.
Metadata completeness is medium; specific column names and row counts are not provided across sources.
Conflicting 'last updated' timestamps exist between platforms (2009 vs. 2026), suggesting potential metadata inconsistency.

Source
NASA World Climate Research Programme/Global Energy and Water-Cycle Experiment (WCRP/GEWEX) Surface Radiation Budget (SRB) Project.
Collection Method
Derived using a Longwave algorithm with inputs from ISCCP HXS (clouds), ISCCP nnHIRS (meteorology), Landflux/MERRA-2 (surface conditions), and SeaFlux SST (for the 1988-2009 period).
Time Range
July 1983 through December 2009

Geography
Global, land-only for 1983-1987 period; global for 1988-2009 period.
License is listed as 'other-license-specified'; users should verify terms. The dataset consists of two distinct temporal products with different spatial coverages and averaging methods (UTC vs. local solar time).
