Description
The GINGALAC database table contains a summary of the contents of the Ginga satellite pointed observations. It was produced from raw Ginga LAC First Reduction Files and includes information on individual pointings, FITS spectra, light curves, HDS and FITS data cubes, and pipeline plots. NASA HEASARC hosts this copy of the archive, which was originally delivered in 1999 and had its positions and nh parameter values corrected in October 2008.
Use Cases
Analyze X-ray source variability based on light curves mentioned in the description.
Perform spectral analysis of astronomical objects based on the FITS spectra.
Study individual astronomical pointings using the summary information for each observation.
Reproduce or extend pipeline processing analyses using the included plots and data cubes.
Strengths
Data products are compatible with specialized analysis software like the XANADU suite.
Includes multiple data types: spectra, light curves, data cubes, and plots.
Positions and nh parameter values were corrected in a 2008 update.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
