Description
Gippsland Basin, Australia, was surveyed between April 5 and 24, 2015, to acquire precompetitive 2D seismic and bathymetry data. Geoscience Australia conducted the survey to assess the basin's CO2 storage potential and identify indicators of compromised seal integrity. The data is available for free download from the Geoscience Australia website.
Use Cases
Modeling potential CO2 storage reservoirs based on sequence stratigraphic constraints.
Identifying indicators of natural hydrocarbon or fluid seepage to assess seal integrity.
Conducting high-resolution seafloor mapping based on multi-beam echo-sounder (MBES) data.
Supporting subsurface geological studies with integrated seismic and sub-bottom profiling (SBP) data.
Strengths
Data collected over a defined 20-day period in April 2015.
Includes industry-standard precompetitive 2D seismic, MBES, and SBP data.
Survey was conducted under the National CO2 Infrastructure Plan (NCIP).
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
