Description
1981 oversnow traverses from Casey station inland to Law Dome and Wilkes Land collected glaciological data. The report includes measurements for accumulation, density, barometric profiling, gravity, ice thickness, bedrock profiling, snow temperature, surface density, and oxygen isotopes. Data was collected by the Australian Antarctic Division and archived in 1981.
Use Cases
Model ice thickness and bedrock topography using gravity and profiling data.
Analyze snow accumulation rates and density measurements for climate reconstruction.
Correlate surface snow temperature and oxygen isotope measurements with atmospheric conditions.
Validate modern satellite-derived ice sheet elevation data against historical barometric profiling records.
Strengths
Data collected from four distinct oversnow traverses in 1981.
Includes multiple measurement types: accumulation, density, gravity, ice thickness, temperature, and isotopes.
Limitations
Sample size and spatial extent are limited to the 1981 traverse routes.
Data is from a single year, limiting temporal trend analysis.
Original data format and structure are unspecified, potentially requiring manual extraction from report documents.
Provenance
Source
Australian Antarctic Division (AU_AADC) records store.
Collection Method
In-situ measurements collected during four oversnow traverses.

1981
Freshness
null
