GOME satellite data provided near real-time total ozone maps and vertical profiles during the 1997 Arctic winter campaign from January 24 to March 31. The Bremen Institute of Environmental Physics and Remote Sensing (IUP/ife) generated these products in collaboration with DLR and ESA. Maps were updated every six hours, using data from ten daily satellite orbits received at the Kiruna ground station.
Data is historical and focused on a specific campaign. The distinction between near-real-time data (ended March 1997 for profiles) and potentially continued total ozone provision is unclear. Requires understanding of satellite orbital mechanics (3-day global coverage) and data gridding methods.
