Description
During the Galileo spacecraft's flyby of asteroid Ida, the Plasma Wave Receiver collected electric and magnetic wave spectra. The data set includes 1-minute averages of spectral densities, binned into 49 electric channels from 6 Hz to 5.6 MHz and 34 magnetic channels from 6 Hz to 75 kHz. This browse data set was produced by NASA from the High Frequency Receiver, Sweep Frequency Receiver, and Spectrum Analyzer.
Use Cases
Analyze electric field spectral density based on V^2/m^2/Hz measurements
Study magnetic field spectral density based on nT^2/Hz measurements
Compare wave spectra across 49 logarithmically-spaced electric channels
Compare wave spectra across 34 magnetic channels
Use as browse data for the Galileo flyby of Ida
Strengths
Data covers electric spectra from 6 Hz to 5.6 MHz and magnetic spectra from 6 Hz to 75 kHz
Includes 1-minute averages of spectral densities
Produced by NASA's Galileo mission instruments
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
The spectral resolution is reduced for browse purposes and does not correspond to the instrument's 158 specific channels
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Collection Method
Data gathered by the Galileo spacecraft's Plasma Wave Receiver during its flyby of asteroid Ida.
