Description
NASA's Galileo mission magnetic field vectors from the Io flyby on December 7, 1995, and subsequent operations after a May 1996 software update. The dataset contains raw, packetized instrument data, replacing the earlier Experimenter Data Records format. Processing internal to the magnetometer instrument remains in the data.
Use Cases
Modeling Jupiter's magnetospheric dynamics based on magnetic field vector data.
Analyzing plasma interactions during the Io flyby based on raw instrument measurements.
Studying temporal changes in the Jovian magnetic environment after the 1996 software load.
Calibrating or validating magnetometer processing algorithms based on the raw packet format.
Strengths
Data originates from the authoritative NASA Galileo mission.
Includes a specific temporal anchor point: the Io flyby on December 7, 1995.
Contains raw data with instrument-internal processing preserved, which may be useful for calibration.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
