Description
International GNSS Service (IGS) Analysis Centre provides 15-minute global maps of Total Electron Content (TEC), a key ionospheric metric. The data combines estimates from four major analysis centers: CODE, ESA, JPL, and UPC. Maps and movies are available in cylindrical and polar projections, though continuous coverage is not guaranteed.
Use Cases
Modeling ionospheric disturbances for satellite signal correction based on global TEC maps.
Analyzing space weather patterns based on 15-minute TEC estimates.
Visualizing global ionospheric dynamics based on TEC movies in cylindrical and polar projections.
Assessing error margins in GNSS positioning based on rapid RMS maps of TEC errors.
Strengths
Data is produced by the authoritative International GNSS Service (IGS) Analysis Centre.
Combines estimates from four established analysis centers (CODE, ESA, JPL, UPC) for robustness.
Provides high temporal resolution with estimates generated every 15 minutes.
Limitations
Continuous coverage is not guaranteed, which may create data gaps.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
