Description
Southwest Australia (24-46S, 106-140E) is covered by digital grids of bathymetry, gravity, and magnetic data. The Australian Geological Survey Organisation produced these grids by integrating land, marine, and satellite data, with significant bathymetric input from the Australian Hydrographic Office. The results were obtained by performing a network adjustment on marine ship-track data and combining it with onshore and satellite-derived sources.
Use Cases
Modeling seafloor topography based on the integrated bathymetry data.
Analyzing crustal density variations based on the gravity anomaly grids.
Mapping geological structures and magnetic basement based on the magnetic data.
Integrating multi-sensor geophysical data for regional geological studies.
Strengths
Data integrates multiple sources: land, marine ship-track, and satellite-derived data.
Coverage spans a large geographic quadrant of Australia (24-46S, 106-140E).
Work involved cooperation with specialized organizations like the Australian Hydrographic Office.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Provenance
Source
Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO), with input from the Australian Hydrographic Office and Desmond Fitzgerald & Associates.
Collection Method
Network adjustment performed on marine ship-track data, combined with onshore and satellite-derived data.
