A set of digital bathymetry, gravity, and magnetic grids for the southwest quadrant of Australia (24-46S, 106-140E). The Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO) produced the grids using all available land, marine, and satellite data, in cooperation with Desmond Fitzgerald & Associates and with significant bathymetric data input from the Australian Hydrographic Office. The results were obtained by performing a network adjustment on marine ship-track data and combining these with onshore and satellite-derived data.
Use Cases
- Modeling seafloor topography and geological structures based on integrated bathymetry data.
- Analyzing subsurface density variations based on gravity anomaly grids.
- Mapping magnetic anomalies for geological interpretation and mineral exploration.
- Integrating multi-source data for regional geophysical studies based on combined land, marine, and satellite data.
Strengths
- Covers a large geographic region (24-46S, 106-140E) in southwest Australia.
- Integrates multiple data sources including land, marine, and satellite data.
- Produced in cooperation with specialized organizations (AGSO, DFA, AHO).
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific survey region.
