Description
AGSO produced digital grids of bathymetry, gravity, and magnetic data for Southwest Australia (24-46S, 106-140E). The work integrated all available land, marine, and satellite data through a network adjustment of marine ship-track data. Collaboration included Desmond Fitzgerald & Associates and the Australian Hydrographic Office.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed topography based on bathymetry grid data
Analyzing crustal density variations based on gravity anomaly grids
Mapping magnetic anomalies for geological interpretation based on magnetic grids
Integrating land and marine geophysical data for regional studies based on the combined data sources
Strengths
Grids cover a large geographic quadrant (24-46S, 106-140E)
Data integrates multiple sources: land, marine, and satellite
Work involved collaboration with Desmond Fitzgerald & Associates and the Australian Hydrographic Office
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Freshness should be verified; last metadata update was 2026-05-05
Provenance
Source
Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO)
Collection Method
Network adjustment on marine ship-track data combined with onshore and satellite-derived data
Geography
Southwest quadrant of Australia (24 - 46S, 106-140E)
