Description
Geoscience Australia classifies the geomorphological features of the Great Artesian Basin, including offshore areas beneath the Gulf of Carpentaria. The dataset groups features into categories based on depositional environment: Marine, Fluvial, Aeolian, Playa-lacustrine, and Erosional terrain. It is associated with the 2015 Hydrogeological Atlas of the Great Artesian Basin and other referenced scientific records.
Use Cases
Classifying landform types based on the described Marine, Fluvial, Aeolian, Playa-lacustrine, and Erosional categories.
Mapping the spatial distribution of depositional environments within the Great Artesian Basin.
Integrating geomorphological data with hydrogeological models for basin analysis.
Studying the extent and characteristics of submerged features in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Strengths
Includes offshore extents of the basin beneath the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Features are classified into five distinct geomorphological categories.
Dataset is formally referenced and linked to a published Hydrogeological Atlas.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific basin study.
Provenance
Source
Geoscience Australia, via the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Collection Method
Likely derived from geological surveys, remote sensing, and referenced scientific studies.
Time Range
null
