Fisheries and Oceans Canada conducts standardized longline surveys covering most of British Columbia's nearshore, hard-bottom habitat to provide fishery-independent abundance indices. The coordinated surveys follow a random depth-stratified design within 2 km by 2 km sampling blocks, using baited circle hooks deployed from research and commercial vessels. Data includes catch, effort, location (latitude, longitude), and associated biological information for rockfishes and other groundfish species.
