Description
High-Resolution Radar Imagery, Digital Elevation Models, and Related GIS Layers for Barrow, Alaska, USA, Version 1 contains primary Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR) data acquired by Intermap Technologies from 27 to 29 July 2002. The dataset includes Orthorectified Radar Imagery (ORRI) at 1.25 m resolution, Digital Surface and Terrain Models (DSM/DTM) at 5 m resolution, and derived layers like slope, aspect, and contours. It serves as a baseline for multi-disciplinary research on environmental change in the Arctic.
Use Cases
Analyzing terrain elevation and surface features using the 5-meter resolution Digital Surface and Terrain Models.
Conducting change detection studies using the high-resolution (1.25 m) Orthorectified Radar Imagery.
Generating topographic derivatives like slope-angle and aspect grids for hydrological or geomorphological modeling.
Creating base maps for field research by incorporating provided USGS Digital Raster Graphic mosaics and index maps.
Strengths
Provides high-resolution data with ORRI at 1.25 meters and DSM/DTM at 5 meters.
Includes 26 spatially tiled data products with derived layers and accessory maps from other sources.
Offers FGDC-compliant metadata in multiple formats (text, HTML, XML) alongside a product handbook.
Limitations
Access is restricted to NSF-funded investigators only, requiring an award number.
Data acquisition date is from July 2002, limiting temporal analysis of recent changes.
Conflicting 'last updated' metadata exists between platforms (2002 vs. 2026), suggesting potential metadata management issues.
