A global, multivariate statistical classification of the ocean floor into 11 distinct seascape categories, comprised of 53,713 separate polygons. The dataset was created using six biophysical variables—depth, seabed slope, sediment thickness, primary production, bottom water dissolved oxygen, and bottom temperature—to support the objective design of high seas Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). It enables GIS analysis to identify heterogeneity hotspots as candidate MPA sites, removing subjectivity from the conservation planning process.
License information is not provided. The dataset is described as an 'External Publication' or 'Scientific Journal Paper', suggesting it may be a derived or published research product rather than primary source data.
