Description
Geoscience Australia provides geochemical data from hydrocarbon fluid correlation studies in the Browse Basin, North West Shelf, Australia. The dataset includes analyses of diamondoids and semi-volatile aromatic compounds from whole oil and condensate samples, used to identify multiple petroleum sources. The data supports research published in Marine and Petroleum Geology, Volume 113, 2020.
Use Cases
Correlating hydrocarbon fluids to specific source rocks based on diamondoid and semi-volatile aromatic compound signatures.
Assessing the maturity of petroleum fluids using aromatic maturity ratios and stable carbon isotopic composition data.
Identifying mixed-source hydrocarbon accumulations within a sedimentary basin.
Refining fluid discrimination models that are primarily based on saturated biomarker compositions.
Strengths
Data is derived from comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC×GC-TOFMS).
Analysis includes multiple compound classes: diamondoids, semi-volatile aromatics, alkylbenzenes, and stable carbon isotopes.
Samples are from specific, named fields and wells (e.g., Cornea, Gwydion-1, Kronos-1) in the Browse Basin.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
