Description
NASA's International Halley Watch (IHW) compiled this archive of observations from Comet Halley's 1985-1986 apparition. The dataset includes 7 continuum and 29 spectral line observations from the Radio Studies Network, with 17 of those lines being OH. Data collection spanned from November 13, 1985, through January 31, 1986.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet composition based on spectral line observations, particularly OH lines.
Studying comet activity and evolution based on UV visibility data collected over time.
Comparing ground-based radio observations with spacecraft measurements mentioned in the description.
Validating models of comet emissions using the continuum and spectral line data.
Strengths
Includes 7 continuum and 29 spectral line observations, with 17 specifically identified as OH.
Data collection spans a defined 80-day period from November 13, 1985, to January 31, 1986.
Compiled by NASA's International Halley Watch with input from nine scientific discipline networks.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
