Description
High-resolution bathymetry data for the Cape Range and Cloates Canyons area in the Gascoyne Marine Park, Australia. The dataset includes 64m and 16m resolution 32-bit GeoTIFFs produced from multibeam sonar data collected aboard the RV Falkor from March 8 to April 8, 2020. The survey was led by Dr. Rachel Przeslawski of Geoscience Australia with a team from Curtin University, Western Australian Museum, and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Use Cases
Map seafloor geometry and depth for habitat modeling based on the high-resolution bathymetry data.
Support marine park management and conservation planning based on the detailed mapping of submarine canyons.
Conduct scientific research on species diversity and distribution in relation to canyon topography.
Analyze the structure of unexplored submarine canyons within the Gascoyne Marine Park.
Strengths
Data includes high-resolution 16m and 64m bathymetry grids for water depths shallower than 2560m.
Survey was conducted by a multi-institutional scientific team using Kongsberg EM302 and EM710 multibeam sonar systems.
Dataset is published with the permission of the CEO of Geoscience Australia, indicating institutional endorsement.
Limitations
Column-level documentation and sample data are unavailable, requiring field semantics to be inferred after download.
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting its application scope.
Row count and total file size are unknown, which may complicate suitability assessment for large-scale projects.
