Description
Australia's Gascoyne Marine Park is the focus of this high-resolution bathymetry dataset. The data was collected by scientists from Geoscience Australia, Curtin University, Western Australian Museum, and Scripps Institution of Oceanography aboard the RV Falkor from March to April 2020. It includes processed 64m and 16m resolution geotiffs of submarine canyons, intended for scientific research and marine park management.
Use Cases
Map unexplored submarine canyon geometry based on the high-resolution bathymetry data.
Study species diversity and habitat distribution in canyons based on the described link between canyon features and biota.
Support marine park management decisions based on detailed maps of the Gascoyne Marine Park.
Conduct scientific research on Australia's marine estate based on the stated primary objective of the survey.
Strengths
Data includes high-resolution 64m and 16m bathymetry grids.
Survey was conducted by a multi-institutional team of scientists from recognized organizations.
Data collection occurred over a defined period from March 8 to April 8, 2020.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic/temporal bias inherent to data_gov_au.
