Nine National Reference Stations around Australia's coastline provide monthly (or three-monthly) zooplankton abundance estimates. Samples are collected using a standardized drop net to analyze community composition, biomass, and size spectra, with a partial time series extending from at least 2002. The data is part of a larger national water sampling program designed for interoperability with other observing systems.
Data is freely available via the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) portal. Users should note the change in taxonomic resolution over time and the different sampling methodology used for the early Port Hacking (PH4) records.
