A 48 km2 area of the Vestfold Hills nearshore environment was surveyed using multibeam echosounder and towed underwater video to map benthic habitats. The analysis compares top-down and bottom-up mapping approaches, identifying habitat types like shallow boulder fields, exposed bedrock, steep slopes, muddy basins, and sandy plains. The research provides a spatial framework for environmental management and a baseline for assessing change in East Antarctica.
