Description
The International Seabed Geomorphology Mapping Working Group's classifier tool supports a standardized two-part seabed mapping approach. Developed by geoscience agencies from the UK, Norway, Ireland, and Australia, it assigns five levels of geomorphic classification attributes and 16 additional interpretation attributes. The tool is implemented as an Esri ArcGIS Pro Python tool and includes tutorials, a user guide, and sample data.
Use Cases
Classifying seabed geomorphology based on a standardized five-level nomenclature structure.
Attributing mapped seabed features with 16 additional geomorphic interpretation descriptors.
Integrating classification workflows with complementary seabed morphology mapping tools.
Providing baseline geomorphic information for ocean resource management and planning.
Strengths
Implements a standardized classification framework developed by an international working group from four countries.
Tool provides five levels of classification attributes and 16 additional interpretation attributes.
Includes tutorials, a user guide, and sample data for application examples.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the contributing agencies' regions.
