Description
Historical greenhouse gas abundances from 1750-2019 and future projections from 2020-2500 are provided for nine Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) scenarios, including SSP1-1.9, SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, SSP3-7.0-lowNTCF, SSP4-3.4, SSP4-6.0, SSP5-3.4-over, and SSP5-8.5. The dataset also includes historical and projected effective radiative forcing (ERF) estimates, with best estimates and uncertainty percentiles, for both SSP and Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios. This extended data underpins the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, offering a more complete temporal and scenario coverage than the published abridged tables.
Use Cases
[Calibrating Earth system models] based on [historical greenhouse gas abundances from 1750-2019]
[Assessing climate policy impacts] based on [future radiative forcing projections across multiple SSP and RCP scenarios]
[Quantifying uncertainty in climate projections] based on [best estimate, 5th, and 95th percentile values for effective radiative forcing]
[Comparing forcing components] based on [breakdowns of minor greenhouse gases and aggregated categories in specific tables]
Strengths
[Provides data for all years] as stated in the description, extending beyond the abridged published report tables.
[Includes a 100,000-member Monte Carlo ensemble] for historical effective radiative forcing, offering a detailed quantification of uncertainty.
[Covers a wide temporal range] from 1750 to 2500, combining historical reconstruction with long-term future projections.
[Contains multiple scenario families] including nine SSP scenarios and four RCP scenarios, supporting diverse climate research.
Limitations
[Key metadata is missing] as no column names, row counts, file sizes, or specific update dates are provided in the sources.
[Source reliability is unclear] as the dataset is hosted on a code-sharing platform rather than an official IPCC data repository.
[Potential for version confusion] exists as the description references extended data not in the main report, without a clear versioning system.
Provenance
Source
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Working Group 1 Annex 3; original greenhouse gas data from Meinshausen et al. (2020).
Collection Method
Compiled and extended from the published IPCC AR6 WG1 Annex 3 tables, with additional years and scenarios.
Time Range
1750-2500
Geography
Global
The dataset is distributed under an 'Open Access (green)' license, but the specific terms are not detailed. Data is provided in CSV and HDF5 formats as referenced in the description of tables.
