Description
Iraq sub-national vegetation health is tracked through dekadal (10-day) NDVI indicators derived from NASA MODIS collection 6.1 satellite data. Produced by the World Food Programme, the records include 10-day averages, long-term historical means, and percentage anomalies. Each entry is aggregated to administrative units and includes Pcode references for humanitarian data integration.
Use Cases
Monitoring agricultural drought by comparing vim against vim_lta
Analyzing vegetation health trends across Iraq using the viq anomaly percentage
Validating the statistical significance of aggregates using the n_pixels count
Strengths
Uses NASA MODIS collection 6.1 satellite data
Includes Pcode references for administrative units
Provides n_pixels to indicate the data density of each aggregate
Limitations
Aggregated at the sub-national level, masking local-scale variations
Temporal coverage start date is not specified in the metadata
Provenance
Source
World Food Programme (WFP) via NASA MODIS
Collection Method
Satellite remote sensing aggregated to administrative boundaries
Freshness
Updated through March 2026.
Geography
Iraq
Requires WFP administrative boundary shapefiles to visualize Pcode-referenced data on a map.
