Description
Ion densities for species from 1 to 64 atomic mass units, including H+, D+, He+, N++, O++, N+, O2+, and others, measured by the ISIS 2 satellite's ion-mass spectrometer. The dataset also includes spacecraft position, geomagnetic field intensity, and solar/geomagnetic activity indices (F107, Kp, Dst). It is provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and was last updated in March 2026.
Use Cases
Modeling ionospheric composition based on measured ion densities of H+, D+, He+, N++, O++, and heavier ions.
Correlating plasma conditions with solar activity using the included daily solar radio flux (F107) data.
Studying geomagnetic storm effects on the ionosphere using the provided Kp and Dst indices.
Analyzing spatial variations in plasma by combining ion density data with spacecraft position information.
Strengths
Includes measurements for a specific range of ion species (1-64 atomic mass units).
Integrates core space physics variables: ion densities, spacecraft position, geomagnetic field, and solar/geomagnetic indices.
Provided by the authoritative source National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is stored in BIN and HTML formats, which may require specialized tools for access and parsing.
