Description
A sample/species matrix of infaunal taxa derived from Van Veen grab samples collected in Jervis Bay, New South Wales. Geoscience Australia acquired the data during marine surveys in 2007, 2008, and 2009 aboard the RV Kimbla. The surveys mapped seabed bathymetry and characterized benthic environments through sediment sampling, video observation, and current measurements.
Use Cases
Model species distribution based on co-located sediment and bathymetry data mentioned in the description
Analyze benthic community composition from the infaunal taxa matrix
Correlate infaunal presence with seabed habitat types observed via underwater video
Study temporal changes in infauna across the 2007-2009 survey period
Strengths
Data collected over three consecutive years (2007, 2008, 2009) providing temporal depth
Surveys incorporated multiple data streams including bathymetry, sediment analysis, and video observation
Spatial coverage includes a focused 3x5 km grid and additional representative habitat transits
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
