December 2012 public transit service data is used to calculate accessibility indicators for U.S. metropolitan census block groups, with reachable employment and worker counts from 2010. The dataset models total travel time between block group centroids, including walking, waiting, and transfers, to identify areas accessible within a 30-minute commute. It was produced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and covers block groups within metropolitan regions where transit agencies provide standardized GTFS data.
All variable names refer to variables in the EPA's Smart Location Database; users should consult its User Guide for full descriptions. Data is provided in ZIP and ESRI REST formats, which may require GIS software for full utilization. Coverage is limited to areas where transit agencies shared standardized GTFS data.
