Description
Kimba SI53-07 is a digital topographic map from Geoscience Australia's AUSTopo series covering the entire continent at a 1:250,000 scale. The series comprises 516 standard maps, each covering approximately 150 by 110 kilometers, and includes about 50 special maps for non-standard areas. It contains natural and constructed features such as road and rail infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, and 50-meter contours.
Use Cases
Extract road and rail infrastructure features for transportation network analysis and routing models.
Analyze hydrography and 50-meter contour data for watershed modeling and terrain analysis.
Use vegetation and administrative boundary layers for land-use classification and environmental planning.
Georeference map sheets using GDA94/GDA2020 coordinates and UTM projection for spatial integration with other datasets.
Strengths
Covers the entire continent of Australia with 516 standard map sheets.
Provides topographic detail at 1:250,000 scale, the largest scale covering the whole continent.
Includes multiple feature layers: infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, contours, and administrative boundaries.
Limitations
Data is provided in static PDF format, requiring extraction for geospatial analysis.
Map sheets may contain information from surrounding sheets, potentially complicating precise tile-based analysis.
