Description
Land Use-Land Cover (LULC) data for the Indian Sundarban delta, prepared by the Environmental Information Data Centre. The dataset includes maps for 1990, 1998, 2000, 2008, 2010, 2019, and 2021, derived from Landsat and ESRI satellite imagery. It supports monitoring of coastal erosion, salinity intrusion, and cyclone impacts.
Use Cases
Monitor coastal erosion and land loss based on temporal LULC maps.
Analyze salinity intrusion impacts on agriculture and mangroves based on land cover categories.
Assess cyclone damage and recovery patterns based on pre- and post-event imagery.
Support ecosystem-based management planning based on the distribution of mangroves, aquaculture, and settlements.
Strengths
Covers a 31-year time span from 1990 to 2021.
Uses consistent satellite sources, including Landsat 5 TM, Landsat 7 ETM+, and ESRI data.
Includes pre-processing steps like radiometric and atmospheric correction.
Validated and reclassified into consistent categories for temporal comparison.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is embargoed until December 31, 2026, limiting immediate access.
