Description
From 1999 to 2003, this dataset provides spatially extensive and temporally intensive surveys of river biogeochemistry in the Ji-Parana River Basin in Western Amazonia, Brazil. It includes measurements of nutrient ions, dissolved carbon, pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity, alongside watershed characteristics like land use, slope, and soil cation exchange capacity. The data comprises six CSV files of tabular measurements and five shapefiles containing sub-basin boundaries and sampling point locations.
Use Cases
Modeling nutrient fluxes based on water chemistry measurements from the main stem and tributaries.
Analyzing relationships between watershed characteristics (land use, slope) and river biogeochemistry.
Mapping sampling locations and sub-basin boundaries for spatial analysis using the provided shapefiles.
Studying seasonal or monthly variations in water quality parameters over the four-year period.
Strengths
Combines detailed temporal water chemistry data (1999-2003) with spatially extensive watershed attributes.
Includes geospatial vector data (shapefiles) for precise location mapping of samples and sub-basins.
Data collection covers both the main river stem and major tributaries, including the Urupa River.
Limitations
Column names for the CSV files are not provided, which may hinder immediate analysis.
Conflicting metadata: the 'last updated' date differs significantly between platforms (2003 vs. 2026).
Exact row counts and file sizes are unknown, limiting assessment of dataset scale.
