LDEO-pCO2 HPD Back in Time: Global Ocean Carbon Sink Estimates, 1959-2020

LDEO-Hybrid Physics Data product interpolates sparse historical surface ocean pCO2 observations to create global coverage from 1959 to 2020. The product uses global ocean biogeochemical models as priors and applies machine learning to estimate corrections, revealing a response to atmospheric CO2 growth and volcanic eruptions. Val Bennington of Columbia University created this dataset to quantify the ocean carbon sink over six decades.
