Description
A raster dataset provides the maximum modelled temperature at the base of the Upper Devonian Kinnesswood Formation and Stratheden Group in Scotland's Midland Valley. The model was created by Kearsey, T.I., Receveur, M. and Monaghan, A.A. in 2024 to assess hot sedimentary aquifer geothermal potential. The data was last updated on the platform in April 2026.
Use Cases
Identify potential geothermal resource locations based on modelled reservoir temperature.
Assess regional geothermal energy potential for hot sedimentary aquifers.
Validate or compare geological heat flow models based on the updated geological framework.
Inform subsurface energy project planning based on temperature distribution maps.
Strengths
Model is based on an updated 2024 geological framework by named BGS authors.
Data provides specific spatial coverage for the Midland Valley of Scotland.
Platform metadata includes a precise last updated timestamp of 2026-04-09.
Limitations
The model is presented with high uncertainty, as stated in the description.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file format are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
