Description
Legacy BGS geothermal models provide the modelled temperature at the top of the early Carboniferous limestone in the Northern and Southern provinces of Great Britain. The data were created by D J.R. Jones, T. Randles, T. Kearsey, T.C. Pharaoh, and A. Newell in 2023. This raster dataset is associated with the publication https://doi.org/10.1016/j.geothermics.2023.102649.
Use Cases
Assess geothermal potential based on modelled limestone temperature.
Plan hot sedimentary aquifer exploration based on regional temperature maps.
Validate subsurface thermal models based on BGS legacy data.
Analyze spatial temperature distribution for the early Carboniferous limestone layer.
Strengths
Created by a team of five researchers from the British Geological Survey.
Associated with a peer-reviewed publication from 2023.
Covers two distinct geographic provinces in Great Britain.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
